The Seven Hills Student Council

Student council at Seven Hills is a very important part of the things that we do at our school. For example, the student council runs all the intramurals, special days like Pumpkin Day, the Amazing Race for Global Ed Day, and more. Without the student council we wouldn’t have any of this. Student council is for everyone at the school willing to sign up, you don’t have to be voted in, all you have to do is sign up and you have a chance to join. All members are involved in some way whether you are helping come up with new ideas or helping out during special days. Student council is open to any kids in middle school (7th and 8th graders). Student council works very hard to make sure we are a community and that we have fun.

We interviewed Mrs. Hanley who is one of the advisors with Mrs Licata for Student Council. “One of my favorite things about an advisor for the student council is teaching kids how to lead and seeing them in ways I don’t usually see,” Mrs. Hanley said. “Sometimes it can be stressful managing student council, being a coach and a P.E. teacher but I still love it,” Mrs. Hanley said.  Some new things that the Student Council is doing this year are Stinger Shootout and 3v3 basketball intramurals. Mrs. Hanley’s favorite thing that the student council has done this year was bringing back Locks for Leonard. “I feel very strongly about donating hair and I think it’s really cool.” Mrs. Hanley also said that this year 51 students signed up for Student Council. Usually, only around 30 students sign up, and they select 15, but this year they took 25 to do more things during the school year. “Mrs. Licata is very fun to work with,” Mrs. Hanley said.

Members really enjoy working in the Student Council. “I signed up for Student Council because I like the idea of students helping out with different types of communities,” Maya Sinha, a member of Student Council, said. “The reason I like Student Council is because of how we meet and how I get to see my friends. It’s super chill,” Maya Sinha said. The Student Council meets every Monday and they all get chances to be assigned to cool jobs. “My favorite thing that I have done this year for student council was to be an MC for the pep rally. It was very fun,” Maya Sinha said.

Student Council is a crucial part of Seven Hills and the activities that we do in the community. Without student council we wouldn’t have any Special Days, intramurals, and pep rallies.
