Have you ever wondered why chocolate milk is sometimes low in the school cafeteria? Or why the cafeteria is sometimes low on vegetables? The answer to this problem occurs because of food shortages. This is becoming a huge challenge in the cafeteria because the workers want students to be happy with the food they provide.
“The foods that are in the food shortage are milk, eggs, milk based products, vegetables and green apples,” Mr. Snyder said. The food shortage still continues to happen because of supply chain issues. The supply chain seemed to be running a lot slower because there weren’t enough people to deliver the food to the cafeteria. The problem continued to challenge the workers at the cafeteria to serve students the food that they wanted.
Student Jelani Lewis commented on the shortage: “I’m disappointed about it because I get food every day and get hungry during the day.” The workers were trying to solve the challenge so that the students could get what they wanted during the school day. They didn’t know how to end the food shortage, so they were going to wait it out and hope that things would get better soon.
“There were more egg shortages, but that was during the summer,” Mr. Waskowitz said. It seemed like the egg shortage was still occurring but the cafeteria workers didn’t know why it was happening. The cafeteria workers wanted to know why the food shortage was still occurring today.
Mr. Waskowitz wanted his students to be happy with the food options at the cafeteria. “If we don’t get what we want, it can ‘sour’ our feelings,” Mr. Waskowitz stated. Mr. Waskowitz thought that if students didn’t get the food they wanted, then they would have negative thoughts about school. “If there are negative feelings that students are feeling, I want to get to the bottom of it,” Mr. Waskowitz stated.
Despite these challenges, our cafeteria staff still work hard to serve us every day and make us happy.
