Who is Ms. Hanley? She is a middle school gym teacher who is liked by her students because she is passionate and makes gym fun for everyone.
Ms. Hanley was a “Gym class hero” when she was growing up.” She always wanted to be a gym teacher because she said her gym teacher was excellent. “He helped me perfect my basketball shot,” Hanley said. Ms. Hanley also stated she was her class’s “GOAT.” Mrs. Hanley wants to help everyone, just like her teacher did in class.
Before she was a gym teacher, Ms. Hanley was a wellness coordinator. She said, “Everybody who worked for the city was my job to make them healthier. So it was cool because I could go down to all the firehouses, and I would go in, and we’d make a cookbook for them, and then I would cook with them and give them healthy recipes. Or I would invite police officers and then they’d bring their lunch, and I would present something on how to lower your blood pressure or something like that. It was really cool.” Her husband, who is also a teacher, encouraged her to apply to Seven Hills.
Mrs. Hanley has always been in sports as she said she played intense middle school and high school basketball. A fun fact is coach Combs, who is another Gym teacher, actually coached her when she played basketball in seventh grade. Now that she’s an adult her 7th grade basketball coach is also her work colleague.
Ms. Hanley also teaches the girls middle school basketball teams. This year her A team had an undefeated season and her B team won the MVC tournament.
Ms. Hanley spends a lot of time around kids. She says that kids “definitely keep me younger.” Ms. Hanley loves teaching P.E. and coaching sports. “I love being around kids, I got into teaching for a reason.”
