Basketball is a sport both girls and boys can play. The boys A team is putting effort into games and practices. The girls A team is having a good season being undefeated so far. This Hive article discusses more about both teams.
The Boys A Team
“The players are willing to share the success with others on the team,” said coach Combs, the boys A team coach, when asked about teamwork. Coach Combs played basketball in high school and used his experience to coach basketball now. He has been coaching many different grades at four different schools since 1995. He knows the best ways to help coach the boys to be the best they can be. Lastly, he is very excited about this season. He said this is a good group of talented boys who are coachable. Coach Combs focuses on plays and shots and not just running around to make them better players.
Landon Gerhardt is a seventh grader on the boys A team. “Because you’re on A you have to be the best of the best,” said Landon. He enjoys the fact that he can be around players he can learn from to become a better player. The A team has a good bond so they can communicate well with each other to have successful outcomes in games. Landon has played basketball since he was in 3rd grade, giving him good knowledge about the sport. He is one of the only 7th graders to make the A team. He looks up to many players on his team including Henry and Tripp. Since the boys help each other out it is a very close knit community.
Henry Wenzel is an eighth grader on the boys A team. Henry is the “big man ya know” he said. He plays center and blocks shots and gets rebounds. Henry’s definition of teamwork is, “Where everybody on the team has to contribute in their own equal way to make something greater happen.”
The Girls A Team
Coach Marsan is looking forward to this season as it is his first time coaching basketball . “As a human being you have a mind and a body and you try to focus your mind at school and try to focus your body at sports,” said Coach Marsan, the girls A team assistant coach. Marsan has coached other sports like track and soccer. So far he is enjoying the season and the only part he dislikes is “the amount of time it takes.” One thing he wants for the girls is that they feel they improved “the girls are very focused,” he said. He appreciates the way the girls stay focused during practices so they can show the best of their abilities.
Sammi Atkinson believes communication is a key element to basketball. “We communicate well and we know how each person plays,” said Sammi who is a seventh grader on the girls A team. She is good at defense, dribbling and layups but she hopes to get better at shooting. Sammi’s biggest hope for this season is “to become a starter.” She also wants to get to know her teammates better. She describes teamwork as “working together toward success.”The team has good communication so they work together well.
Conclusion
Both teams share a love for the sport and a willingness to work with their teammates but also find fun in doing it. Both teams have different strengths and weaknesses. Both teams try their hardest to strive to the goal of good teamwork.
