“Sometimes when you’re coaching middle schoolers, they can have a bad attitude, but this team is very positive,” said the boys coach of the soccer team, Mr. Marsan. This year’s soccer seasons have been fun and engaging for both the girls and boys teams. The coaches have been pushing through a challenging and fantastic season with the soccer community.
A View From the Field
“I’d like to emphasize how proud I am of the team. We came into this [Season] with a new head coach after having a new one last year and we’ve really made the most of it,” said Eli Kampel, an eighth grade student and athlete here at Seven Hills. “There’s been a lot of change in the [soccer] program the last couple years… we’ve done a really good job of getting through it and I think we’re in a good position heading into this week [of tournaments].” Throughout our interview, Eli continued to explain how vital teamwork and trust are while on the field. “We’ve really learned a lot to trust each other and space out… It has been really encouraging, especially during some of our tougher games.“

A Coach’s Perspective
The girl’s soccer coach, Mrs. Hanley, said, “The girls on our team were so incredibly coachable, which allowed us to improve so much.“ Mrs. Hanley describes how she liked coaching for the Seven Hills girl’s team. Mrs. Hanley wished that, “As a coach, all I want is for every girl to get better and to want to play next year. And I think we accomplished both!” The girl’s soccer team has been through ups and downs, but Coach Hanley and Coach Haskins have always been there for them.
Growth and Commitment
The girl’s team had highs and lows, but they got through it with hard work and determination. Another 8th-grade athlete, Maria Schaefer, says, “We’ve faced some hard teams and hard experiences, but we overcame them together, and it was a lot of fun.” Throughout the season, the girl’s soccer team has grown closer and closer after each game. Mrs. Hanley and Mrs. Haskins kept the group together through thick and thin. “They’re really supportive and if you have any challenges they will help you, and they really helped me grow as a soccer player,” Maria said about the coaches.
A Season Full of Fun
Sports are generally played for fitness, passion, and friendships. The Seven Hills soccer teams have demonstrated all these traits throughout their season. Even through tough and fun times, the athletes and coaches have enjoyed their season and remembered always to have fun.
