“Each Day is Different”

Mrs. Reutener isn’t just “the front desk lady”. In reality, she is very fundamental to our school’s success.  If you don’t know Mrs. Reutener, she works as the administrative assistant at our middle school. She handles a lot of everyday tasks, from attendance to scheduling Mr. Waskowitz’s meetings and so much more.

“Each day is different,” Mrs. Reutener said.

When she first gets here in the morning, she has to sort through the messages from parents, take attendance, and organize the tasks for our last minute subs. She gives out lanyard stickers, processes and transfers records, processes payments, and checks/processes emails. She does all of this from 8-9. If the parents don’t call in for their “missing” child, then Mrs. Reutener calls all of them individually to check up on them. She’s constantly working on Mr. Waskowitz’s calendar, scheduling his meetings, organizing the teacher’s roster, and hiding the school’s candy from him.

Her tasks vary from day to day. Sometimes parents bring stuff in and she has to organize it and hand it to the students. She buys standardized test practice sheets (answer sheet online training) and organizes them per subject per grade. She also has to be a nurse sometimes, she gives out ice, handles sick kids, and when it’s too serious she calls Nurse Joy.

Mrs. Reutener said her job can be stressful at times, but not hard. She said it affects her social life/life in a good way, she likes her job because she gets to work with parents and students. She said, “I leave in a good mood.”

Mrs. Reutener got her job through a friend. Her friend was a faculty member and heard about the job opening, so she decided to tell Mrs. Reutener about the offering. Mrs. Reutener later applied and Mr. Waskowitz thought that she was “highly qualified.” Because Mrs. Reutener is very organized, she was hired for the job. Before this Mrs. Reutener worked at an athletic department for Cincinnati Christian Academy.

She normally finishes work at around 3:30 pm. Mrs. Reutener also coaches the middle school girls basketball team as well. She coaches from around 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Ava Deimling, an 8th grade basketball player, described Mrs. Reutener as a “kind and reasonable” coach.

Mrs. Reutener manages many different events at Seven Hills. She stays on task when managing all of the school’s events and always plans ahead. She’s compassionate and holds people accountable. Being the face of our middle school, she always makes the best first impression on visitors and parents. She takes the time to be involved in students’ lives and gets to know them on a personal level.

“She is one of the most respected people in our division and in the middle school,” Mr. Waskowitz said.

Although this is her fourth year working, sadly Mrs. Reutener announced that this will be her last year at Seven Hills. She’s going to spend more time with her grandchildren and focus on faith and family. Like Mr. Waskowitz says, “You don’t get a second chance at being a grandmother”

On behalf of the middle school, we’d like to thank Mrs. Reutener for all she has done for the middle school. We’ll miss you!
