Pumpkin Day was a fantastic success here at Seven Hills! Organized by the Student Council and teachers, Pumpkin Day offered a fun day for everyone!

“My personal favorite thing to do was deciding best in show and seeing them all cheer,” said Elan Newman, a seventh-grade student partaking in the Student Council. He shared how he and the Student Council got ready for an exciting day. Some responsibilities expected from Student Council are being supervisors over the activities the swarm groups partook in, remaining unbiased while voting for best in show, and deciding awards.

All activities are generally the same each year, but it’s an experience every MS student loves because of friendly competition between friends and classmates, such as the challenge of decorating pumpkins to the best of each of the Swarm’s ability to match the theme that the Student Council picked out. Other activities are the Omni Kin Four Square (the ball game), Capture The Flag, and Tug of War.

“Pumpkin Day is a special day that allows the entire Middle School community to come together,” Mrs. Licata said. She mentioned that the tradition of this day started before she even began teaching at Seven Hills. So clearly, the answer to how long this tradition has been going on is A LONG TIME! Mrs. Licata stated how her favorite part of Pumpkin Day was being able to see kids who aren’t in the same class, “laughing and having fun.” Another fun perk about Pumpkin Day is that it’s the same day as Halloween, and middle schoolers get to look forward to this day.
Swarms in Middle School compete against each other to make the best description of what the theme is for this year’s 2025 Pumpkin Day, which is Movie Night.
Below are the awards from the pumpkin display competition.
